Staring at the ceiling in the hum of the fan

Staring at the ceiling Lying on the bed The hum of the fan and the tormenting sound of one's own breath listlessly lying as the endless seconds tick,  the lethargic eternity, and a seemingly stagnated run of time the lifeless being lies still on seemingly endless life support  The hapless soul lies there still and lost The eternal run infusion drip  The monitoring screen on the other side At the far corner on the narrow hospital bench Sat a figure frail, exhausted, and scared. On the bed lies her eternal source of happiness, aspirations, and all  The doctors and ward staff come and go  donned in uniform and a drab unconcerned look added to it a very artificial put-on smile, On their rounds and checks on the frail figure on the bed Readings and observations and medications too. The figure in the corner looks up at them   with anxious eyes and endless expectations But all that is there is a smile and a nod and a few jargons of apo...

The vassals of immense vanity

The vassals of immense vanity donned and disguised in attires of purity  to cleverly mask their true ugly identity  Under the mask of puritan looks quoting and chanting the holy books hidden are the cruel and barbaric men tearing apart the very beautiful fabric of life dipping it in the doomed colours of malice and spite igniting and fanning wars of intolerance and hate  Making mighty walls of faith raking up conflict contrast and hate creating cults, creeds, and groups feeding on the gullible insatiable human greed creating divisions by caste and creed make the best of the human vulnerable

THE GLORIES BHARAT: where Ashoka you and I were born !!

The Sky was raining vengeance and wrath, The bows, spears, maces, all in haste, To wound, to kill demolish and destroy. The heavy crash and clank of weapons, The Battle cries, and cries of pain, The animals added their trumpets and neighs. While all that was alive battled on,  With might, vigor standing ground,  the wounded and killed lay all around.  On the ground shrouded in gloom. lay scattered mutilated human forms, listless dead, and half-dead corpses. Streams of blood and clotted pools, Vultures, hyenas, foxes, and even rats, Biting, gnawing, and chewing on the rotting flesh on bones. Fathers and mothers who lost their sons, Wife's who lost their husbands, Children who lost their parents too. Searching among the scattered flesh,  trying to find and match body parts. of the last remains of the beloved ones, Standing on the battlefield seeing all this, The emperor - suddenly was all alone and fully lost,  No men, no weapons,  no formations there, ...

The treacherous Bandit brutes from the west!!

The land of thieves' slaves and treacherous Bandit brutes from the west!!  The rogues and scoundrels Nothing but haughty tramps The nasty beastly hoard from the west Sailed the seas to plunder the east  Finders' keepers Loser's weepers Say petty thieves and pickpockets They display the booty on their royal crowns With no shame or the slightest qualms They walk in pride decked in loot From the very crown to the boot  Shameless wanton and proud display Of the looted wealth from far and away The land where the sun never sets, they say Because the sun too, is scared that they may steal him away

Death

Death is a mystic Death is a mystic whom everyone knows and everyone knows not too but certainly, death will for you one day come Walking in from nowhere or when expected least and walking away when expected most wanted or unwanted its entry is for sure Some are scared, some are not Some are there who want to dare  Some others out there prefer not to talk  Some die on their beds, at home some die in faraway lands unknown  Some on the sands, some on the shores Some in the water or in the skies  some on the rocks, others die doing their jobs But all die that's for certain and sure   After death, the rituals, the mourning and all then the corpse is buried or burned the crowd will disperse and dissolve but the memories linger to deliver pain The near and dear will live on with flashes and fragments of memories of the gone slowly as the time passes on The person departed and all the memories are gone the muted past a vague memory hazy remembrances of the d...
The still & heavy darkness shrouded the earth. Far away on the horizon the gloomy rain clouds pregnant with a rain – glid lazily through the skies. The lovely Moon is not to be seen around. The oceans roaring and lashing the shore with its violent waves: for the sins committed in the broad daylight. The twitter of the night bird: the glow of the fireflies, the night breeze on the reeds, the strange scents of the grass seed, and the silence struggling to take command. The occasional clasps of thunder tearing the skies, with lightning lighting burning the darkness away. The listless soul – wandering on, with nothing to do and nothing done, driven by destiny, like a dry leaf blown by the wind Nowhere to, nothing to do, no one to befriend - and all alone Balakrishna Gopinath

satyam brūyāt

satyam brūyāt priyam brūyāt na brūyāt satyam apriyam priyam anritam na brūyāt esha dharmah sanātanah (Manusmriti 4:138)  “Say what is true, say what is sweet, but do not say what is true but not sweet, nor say what is sweet but not true, this is wisdom.”
Hanuman hurt the mighty Ravana’s and   orders Hanuman to be killed! But Vibhishana convinces  Ravana about the importance of  ‘Raaja Dharma’ – A righteous king should never put a messenger to death, although he is a wicked person.   The  first most important lesson for a leader is presented here :   a leader should never give himself/herself away while taking crucial decisions. There is no space for emotions in decision making . However, Ravana changes his strategy, and decides on  a different punishment – in form of an insult and defamation !” “Kapeenaam kila laangoolam ishtam bhavati bhooshanam! Tatasya dveepvyathaam sheegram thena dadhyena gacchathu!!” As monkeys take a lot of pride with their long tails ( Laangoolam ), i  burn his tail with fire!   An the apt punishment and an  insult to what his doings !  Drag him along with his burning tail and take him all around Lanka!  Let everyone see him and make fun of hi...

Empty seashells

Empty seashells lying on the beach have stories long and far to reach Scars are tombs of the pains of the past  a rusted nail too has a narrative of its past The Events end but the memories don't Stories end but the morals don't people die but legends don't footprints of great men on the sands of times will later be the lines of rhymes  passed on an on by word of mouth  to the next and next of mankind History  a graveyard of events of the past the pages in books are tombs where memories rest Lessons to be learned and acted upon inspired from those days that are gone  The truth and lies legends and myths Facts and fiction gossip and trash  mixed and served as time flies as the records and history of the bygone days

Is all that worth the life that was lost!!!

Standing alone on the battlefield Devoid of the weapons warriors and all Tired wounded and desperate too   The gloomy scent of defeat descends Valor and pride drain away The shadow of failure is growing long     One by one the senses go numb The sharp and piercing war cries die With fellow men -wounded and dead, Weapons deadly are now scattered scrap   Staggering in fatigued and swagger mode Still trying in vain against the ferocious enemy hoard The battle attires a tattered shroud   In failure all that you earned is lost The men you trusted and prided about the weapons you always flaunted a lot   Reduced to the state of a tramp on the street whom even the God of death does not greet standing alone, lost and forgone in battlefield   Fleeting flashes of the glorious past The battles won are tales of the past The glory and grandiose are razed to dust   Then the bugles and drums The c...

At least, let's learn to be sensitive, sharing, and caring in these times of natural calamities and pandemics !!!

In these times of hardships inflicted on the world by the cruel and fierce pandemic - of course which will also, no doubt this too will definitely pass: it is worth pondering on the human society and its very integrity, fabric, and makeup!! Sadly, many of us are unable to respond to the circumstantial helplessness of our fellow beings. We remain so insensitive to the magnitude and intensity of the misery unleashed all around us. Yes indeed !! Some of us are lucky to be lucky enough, not to have experienced these bad times. But, that should not be a cause for turning a blind eye to miseries our fellow beings. We muster all strength and will rise but at times it is impossible to do so. That's when we need to provide our support. Unfortunately, well being and wealth, very often turn, most of us into selfish and self-centered monsters. Look at those bees, ants, and herds of animals out there. They live for their group and die for it, if necessary! But strangely, while we are humane: ...
